people in oregon aren't allowed to pump their own gas, because they're obviously incompentent at it.
i was at some squalorific gas station at the intersection of OR-34 and US-101 sunday morningish, i'd just gotten my truck filled, had started my truck, and was contemplating whether to reverse direction or head further along the coast for a bit, when the woman getting her car filled up next to mine started her car and drove off while talking on her cell phone.
of course, since the pump was still in her car, the hose ripped up top on the island and gas started spraying everywhere (from about 12' in the air.) I killed my ignition really fast and started debating the merits of running away vs. staying in the car.
The gas station attendants started running around with that wacky hands over head OMFG WHAT JUST HAPPENED hilarity that you only see in cartoons and slapped the emergency shutoff button numerous times. It was quite a large spill, judging by the amount of smell and slick size.
Then the guilty car backed into the puddle of gasoline, and the driver got out speaking on her cel phone telling the other person about what had happened.
