my way back home was varied:

  • Black Rock Playa -- I went to the black rock playa and did two main things, one of which was to perform maintenance at [livejournal.com profile] thebbq's crash site. I do this every year or so to make sure that the site's in good condition against the day that his family (or his friends) visits it. Also, I visited Crow and Keeper, two ranger friends who live on the border of the playa.
  • geocaches -- I found some geocaches, and performed maintenance on cache that I hid which had been vandalized on NV447. I found more on this trip, but I haven't entered them all yet.
  • lava beds national monument -- I went to the lave beds national monument and looked around for a while. It was really pretty, and it is well worth a specific trip to hike around there. I'd been wondering abouut what this was for a couple of years.
  • tule lake wildlike refuge -- At dusk, I went to the Tule Lake National WR and looked around for an hour or three. I got seriously lost while here, to the extent that I was using my actual off-road navigation skills, which are things that I don't usually have to use. Eventually, after a lot of zig-zagging and looking for which roads were thru roads standing on the roof of my truck, I managed to get out about 2 hours later than planned. I saw all sorts of birds, even though this isn't the right season for birdwatching generally.
  • crater lake -- I went on a midnight tour of crater lake under the full moon. It was incredibly beautiful, and things were just incredibly outlined under the moonlight. wonderful.
  • klamath falls -- I have a consistent place I stay in klamath falls that's a little off the beaten track, because frequently I'm towing coming through the area and this one hotel has a great pull-off place, and a diner that's got the menu and attitude taken from some random new york highway that i love across the street. Another weird thing about the hotel -- they give you DSL access from your hotel room, and a cat-5 cable and a piece of paper with your proper IP settings. No wireless.
  • [livejournal.com profile] marjoriebaldwin's birthday -- I went to [livejournal.com profile] marjoriebaldwin's birthday party on Saturday night, having driven more or less straight from Klamath Falls, OR to Bremerton, WA to make it. It was a lot of fun, but about midway through the night my gluten issues just exploded, and I lost all ability to socialize and went home to relax. A friend picked me up at the ferry dock and drove my truck home. It was a make your own sushi party, unfortunately, I'd gone out for omakase with my friend E- on Thursday night to celebrate the end of my dental adventures, so I'd had all the sushi then.
  • brunch -- the last thing that happened before the trip could be said to conclude was that Amy called for brunch, and I went to brunch with her and the texas crowd, whom I'm currently too lazy to remember their LJ names. After that, I just rested until I went to meet my friend at Remedy Teas 6ish.

Tomorrow: more bug fixing, more spec writing. I have about 1000 emails backed up for answering thanks to a filter error on my laptop. I have to go to the apple store and get the memory on my new laptop checked out -- there's some sort of blockage keeping RAM from going into one of the slots and I don't want to force it.
