geocaching
Mar. 19th, 2006 06:56 pmennui and boredom were at practically gothique levels today, so I decided to go geocaching in discovery park over in Magnolia. I found two geocaches, I was originally planning to find 5, but I successfully crashed my GPS and lost the coordinates for the ones down by the lighthouse. I'll just go over there some other time and get the rest. Because the GPS went down, I decided to just spend a couple of hours investigating the park and going to the places in it that i'd meant to but hadn't. All in all, did about 8 miles of walking inside the park today (over ~4 hours), saw just about all i had a mind to.
While I was out and about, another geocacher left a find note (TNLN -- Took Nothing Left Nothing) on my truck, which has a GPS sticker on the back that was an early incarnation of geocaching schwag. I've been doing geocaching about 4 years now, I have 39 finds on my account, and I've probably found about 60 more working with other people (on a since cancelled account.) It's lots of fun, people who take it very seriously typically have over 1000 finds.
- Big Camo'd Ammo Can from the Little Rams. This cache was coincidentally right where I'd parked, so I was right on it when I was done on my walk. It was in an location that appeared to be left over from the time when this was a military base. Trivially easy for me to find, but probably hard to get to for people with shorter arms than I have.
- Discoteca -- A very disco park. This cache was near where one of the first caches I found was. It's more or less along the way from the huge south bluffs area to the rest of the park. It was hidden in what I think was the most stereotypical location to hide a geocache ever. I was walking towards it, saying 'oh no they didn't.' but, it seems, they had.
