REI friends and family sale

rwxSunday, REI had a friends and family sale at its various stores after normal business hours. I guess that REI employees get these cards to give away, and someone gave me one so that I could buy burning man supplies at a reduced rate.
Oddly, the only thing that was any trouble of getting off my list (which was mostly clothes that are only available from REI) was my friend A-'s climbing rope, which was crazily specified[1]. And that was more a matter of waiting for an interlude in the brass band playing (see pic) so I could actually hear a phone call than anything else.
REI is a strange place, about which I continue to be deeply ambivalent; the complete weirdness of this sale with all the people there late on a sunday and everyone in good spirits and the weird twilight zone for the outdoor enthusiast atmosphere did a little to reconcile me towards it.
