I heard a story, from the ex-g/f, about a fellow who had "Your Name" tattooed on his ass. Apparently, he found it a source of endless amusement. Needless to say, the ex-g/f was not as pleased.

Caslon or Trajan, or another of Carol Twombly's designs. In fact I've always been fond of the idea of a big S.P.Q.R. in Trajan, maybe over my left deltoid.

Depending on what it was, most likely I would go for an old fashioned broken-up typewriter font. I like how the paper showed through the ink; I also just like the serif.

Funny you should ask. I'm planning to get a tattoo written in Shavian, and none of the existing Shavian fonts are anywhere near appropriate, so I have to design my own.

something sans serif, depending on the size with serif it might be illegible from the start, and certainly would/could bleed over time into illegibility.
Depends on what language you're getting. Latin, I'd go something slanty and calligraphic, if it's English I'd use something round and friendly, arial or verdana.

That's the only type of tattoo to have.

If it means that much, then close your eyes & envision the word, and there's your font. Surely the meaning of word itself will demand something soft and gentle or sharp and stoic or blocky or dark, or... remember that 80's computer "hacker" font?

Will you do it in your preferred shortcut writing, making use of the extended charset?

I found a Celtic script online eons ago for one I have designed with words, but I couldn't tell you the actual name of it now.

I also plan to have one done in Ogham, but the only Ogham fonts out there are horrid. It'll have to be freehand.
