Dear Previous Billion Years of Evolution,

I wanted to thank you for the use of the toenail which I sadly misplaced on Friday morning. It worked pretty well all through the first thirty-odd years of my life, and it probably saved me from grave damage when it got ripped out at the roots by a piece of metal that was perfectly placed to, shall we say, lift and separate.

The doctor who cleaned/dressed the wound said that there were only slight odds it would grow back or if it did, it would only cover part of the nailbed. It's more severe than just ripping out a nail, which I've had the misfortune of doing before.
