Nov. 28th, 2005 02:54 pmI feel exploited by the movie rent, possibly moreso even than the theatrical version. I don't know, I think it's because I spent a lot of my early adulthood (22-26) living in the East Village and I came to identify with it (a version of it that no longer exists) strongly.
Am I silly for feeling exploited by Rent?

Date: 2005-11-28 11:55 pm (UTC)For some reason, commercialization of things similar to my particular life experiences rankle me, and Rent -- through it's claims to represent a particular place and era -- turns something that I participated in into a spectacle. I guess that's a particularly bmesque take on it, but I think that's as close as I can really come to explaining it.
