Uncharacteristically social the last couple of days, trying to see some people before the mass entertainments of school start up again. NYE was fun, I went to Mashiko in West Seattle for dinner with
rimrunner, and it was pretty excellent. I ended up having the vegetarian special bento box, which was a freakish amount of food compared to other bento boxes that I've had in the past. It was a lot of fun.
Afterwards, we went over to
queen_skarre's NYE party, which was a lot of fun. I chatted with people for a while, and there was a bunch of good conversation. After that, I went to Conwork's Heaven and Hell ball, which was good fun. Saw a lot of the Static Factory People, which was good because I hadn't seen them in a while. I saw a lot of close friends, and I also saw some people that I don't usually expect to see around that scene (like Ms. Rothrock and Julia for example, neither of whom I recognized at first.) The decorations were just fantabulous, and it was generally amazing. I liked a lot of the stuff that SFM had on the hell stage, although there was one DJ on the heaven stage that was really good.
Getting to Conworks was pretty exciting, as I had a near-miss from a drunk driver when I had to stop short to avoid the drunk driver who missed the i5 exit and then turned in to make it. I stopped clean, but the car behind me narrowly missed me and then slammed into the wall behind me. Annoyingly, I'd seen the driver coming in the rear view mirror, and had gone into meditative emergency ultra-relaxation mode with my hands on my knees getting ready for the air bag to hit. After conworks, people (probably not from conworks) were throwing snow closure traffic cones around and I took a bunch of them off the street and deposited them back where I thought they came from (although I accidentally left one in my truck, and am just going to leave it off next time I'm driving around that area.)
The next day I watched the Packers beat the Seahawks with
krautboy et al., and then had lunch with some friends, and then did prep for school and then went to Kold War. While there, I got to see
etyrniti quit smoking, as opposed to everyone else who was just *talking* about their NYE resolutions.
Yesterday, I rounded out the holiday weekend with the weekly burning man potluck at Benway's. I left that early to get some sleep before class, and then didn't manage to get any actual sleep all night. So now I'm back at another quarter of school, and we'll see how that goes.
