the whole seagoth board move/convergence host thing has gotten so bizarre, that i'd like everyone to just leave town for a while, and this strikes me as the easiest way to achieve it.
I don't care one way or the other about the board, as I just peruse once in a while and never post - doesn't matter to me where it is.
As for Convergence - I know what an organizational guru Alexia is, and I just feel we'd be able to put on a superior event. Word on the street is that the Portland bid was put forth by newer members of the scene that didn't bother getting any input from established members - like the woman that puts on the Vampire Ball every year. Whether this really matters or not, I don't know - but I've been to Portland. It kind of sucks. I wouldn't be inclined to go to an event there. It's a drab large town with few things that attract me. I suppose that's what most people say about Seattle, too, heh.
Yeah, people who just take some idea with their little circle of friends try to plan the event without getting any input from the scene at large are just annoying.
*shrugs* Quite a few people knew - I'm sorry if you did not and were (oh noes!) offended. My main point is that I'd rather have it here because Portland kind of blows :)
who's offended? I just think it's funny that you think portland is somehow a negative choice because they didn't include people. how many people do you really think could have been 'included' in a 6 day runup to get the bid together?
But if your main poitn is just that 'portland blows', then no worries. you just have no taste, and I can forgive that.
When it all comes down to it, I'm not goth so I don't care that much. I'll go to Convergence (preferably wearing bright sunny colors) if my favorite perfumery is vending. And I'd probably go whether it was in Portland or here, but Portland would make me complain more.
As you seem to be a Portland fan - what do you like about it? My experience is admittedly limited, but all negative.
I adore portland for its small-townishness. It has no pretentions of being a Major City. It's got a bunch of stuff that's all boutique/unique, and has been able to stave off a lot of the highly annoying homogenization that Seattle has been subjected to over the years.
Also the architecture in the neighborhoods is great, with loads of old craftman style houses still standing, and not ripped to pieces or replaced with shitty townhouses or condos.
It's a HORRIBLE town to try and work in, adn the social scene is very VERY tiny (so is seattle, but portland more so), but it's a nice, quiet town that's beautiful.
Also Powells, and the baghdad theater, and the nickel arcades.
And the HP Lovecraft Film Festival is there too. I think portland is a great town, and would live there again if I wasn't needing to, like, earn a living.
