Geocaching started 6 years ago today with the placement of the first geocache.

There are lots of other geocache-like games in the world, of which Letterboxing is probably the most famous/interesting/all around good fun, but this was the first specific geocache.

I finally have a GPS and want to go a-geocaching, but I find myself disappointed at the lack of possible injury involved with the "sport".

Maybe that's just my ignorance - are there caches guarded by covered pits and Flash Gord[on/-ian] Wood Beasts? Maybe with riddles telling you only to approach it from the East, lest you are thusly impaled on the poking thingies?

I really want to add an element of fear and lay some dangerous caches, but somehow I don't think Microsoft employees would appreciate cleaning the blood out of their SUVs.

Once you get away from immediate urban areas, where you have people with somewhat pathetic ideas of what constitutes difficulty, things that are higher on the terrain scale can be pretty hazardous overall. a 4/4 that's more than 50 miles from a city is usually quite hilarious, but usually they tell you what sort of safety equipment is required.
