Currently, I'm sitting in the great hall at Mary Gates waiting for the person I have an appointment with this morning to arrive. Ah, the whimsical nature of faculty members who need to use the library on the weekend. The only people here are me and this 60+ guy who appears to be either homeless or a tenured professor (they have a similar air to them sometimes.) The putative homeless guy is sleepingm with his head cushioned on his ratty grey beard. Theoretically, I'm sure that I'm supposed to report this to someone, but it's relatively cold out today and he doesn't seem to be causing any trouble.

Last night, I went with [livejournal.com profile] rimrunner to go see the Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada at the Crest in Shoreline. I highly recommend seeing this movie, it's the best I've seen in ages. It's complex enough that it's hard to sum up at one go, but at the surface, it's the story of a man (played by Tommy Lee Jones) whose best friend (Melquiades) is killed and needs to be returned to his hometown for burial. Jones' character does this by abducting the border patrol agent who killed Melquiades and setting out south for Mexico on horseback with the disinterred body. Anyway, great, lots of good stuff in this movie; a very un-hollywood depiction of life in a small border town.

Today was originally going to be lots of working followed by brunch followed by more working followed by going to [livejournal.com profile] exmanhater's bday party, but it seems like the tide of work remains unturned, and at least some of those things will not happen. I am going to Kold War tonight irrespective.

The people behind us who kept saying things like "This is crazy" and other indications of more or less completely failing to get it just added to the experience, I think.

No pressure on brunch. I totally understand the too much work, not enough time thing. We'll probably head to the dish ~12:30. If you feel like you can break away, give me a call five one two five seven six zero one one nine, if not, then we'll catch you another time :)

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada is a truly grand film.

I almost fell off my chair laughing.

It's as if Satre wrote and Sam Shepard directed Weekend at Bernies.
