Cornish Gallery Show / Last Night / Today
May. 13th, 2006 12:20 pmLast night, I took some time off from the persistent calvacade of academic writing to go and see
empyrean_art's show at the Terry Gallery. It was one of those huge Cornish group shows, which I didn't expect because I underestimated the size of the gallery. It also was one of those things that the fire marshall wakes up in the middle of the night shaking and in tears about, like good art shows often are.
empyrean_art had up two pieces (or at least two classes of pieces), one of which was done with paper and string and I can't really do justice to in text, but there's a picture of a very small sample of it on this page.
She also had a very nice piece that was a lot of long strips of copper done with plasma cutter and welding torch with various patinas (chemical, plasma) and welds. It was in long thin strips suitable for hanging. In a massed deployment, it would be a fair stunning visually, although not cat friendly in the slightest.
It was overall a good show, except that I was crazy monkey tired during the entire thing. I ended up hitting the rest of the show quickly, visiting EA's space twice, and then going back up the hill. I eventually went up to cap hill and had dinner with
ziptie at jamjuree on 15th (after seeing that the liberty bar was too chronically full of hipsters to assure good sushi delivery) and eventually went over to Canterbury (where we saw ranger (Naked and) Famous and not Rangers Snow (
gmoryx) or bloofish.)
(Since people asked what I'd brought was, it was Balvenie 15 year, aged half the time in oak barrels and half the time in sherry barrels. It's pretty good for tasting.)

Date: 2006-05-14 02:55 am (UTC)It was good to see you as well, we should hang out at less of a crowd scene soon and talk about theory and other things that are slang for other things.
Ideally soon, before the rush of oncoming graduation carries my mind away.
