Damon (4748 damon from ESD, not Kabau) took this picture of me as I was on the perimeter before the Waffle House burn. The object behind me was a large structure called 'Message from the Future,' but generally known as 'The Waffle House,' 'The Belgian Waffle' or 'Hippy on a Stick.' It was built by a team from Belgium called the UChronians, see uchronians.org for more details. This was right before we got a report of a missing child, and I went around the perimeter with a megaphone announcing a description of the child for a good long while.

The Waffle House was my favorite burn for a couple of years -- it was super bright and quite hot. For scale, the waffle house itself is about 250 feet away from where I'm standing and was about 100 feet tall. When it finally burnt, it burnt slow and hot. I was on the hot side, but was fortunately wearing my turnout pants and a carharts ranger coat that was insulating, so i was able to take the heat more than people around me.

Typically, I don't wear the black coat when I'm volunteering, but my khaki ranger coat got participant blood on it earlier in the week, so spent the event in a plastic bag. Viewing a larger version of the picture gives a better idea of scale.
