I can't wait 'til all the data from this winter comes in. Here's what's going on in the "other" box: we've got a moderate el nino, but no one was really willing to make any bets about its affect on the weather when it started shaping up this fall.

Oooh, look! We made NOAA's "significant global extreme events" for November 2006! I bet we're on again for December, too, at this rate.

I have this wonderful image of an old man in a billed headband with a pencil in it hovering over a teletype machine and hobbling into the newsroom... :)

It's cold as heck down here, although mostly clear. Will you people please get your weather in order so that we can return to normalcy?

This, via someone else on my friendslist, was worth a read. Thoughts?

This contains a lot of bad advice, largely because it doesn't involve being prepared beforehand, relies on cell and internet being working during a disaster, relies on gas being available at all, driving when the roads are bad, and etc... It strikes me more as someone who is saying what they did to survive this particular storm and writing it up as general advice than good advice.

If this storm had been a little more widespread, it would have caused problems on a much larger scale, a lot of the stuff they recommend wouldn't have worked out so well. Another way to put this is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and they seem to be recommending quite a lot of cure.
