last night, i went off on a 10 minute explanation of salt production in the classical world because someone (apparently after reading boing boing) was complaining about the whole 'salt has lost its savor' quote from the bible not making sense. srsly.

The person i was talking to said later that they had no interest in the history of salt but that amount of information i could pull to mind and organize on this topic was scary and amazing.

You are not a boring person. I would have nerded out on salt with you. It's a fascinating history.

No interest in the history of salt? WTF? I'm pretty sure the boring person in this exchange was not you.

Oh, I live for people who can teach me stuff. I told my husband before he met my parents that my family sucks at small talk, but the lectures you get at dinner are pretty cool. Salt production is exactly the sort of thing that gets talked about.

Heh,you're not boring ... but if you actually talked for 10 minutes, I'll give you a star for verbally relentless. ;-)

I've always thought you were kind of scary and amazing in general, and not as a bad thing.

You, my friend, are far from boring.

Have you read Mark Kurlansky's book on the subject, or just general knowledge from ancient history class?

Just curious, b/c a friend recommended COD after SALT and she was right, it's a much better book. But COD first and then writing SALT as an intellectual corollary makes a lot of sense.

Ancient History + interest in making things. I do currently read classical history (west) + premodern history (east) for 'pleasure.'
